This creamy chocolate oatmeal is a delicious and wholesome breakfast, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth while fueling your day.

Ingredients

Dried ingredients

  • 1 cup quick-cooking or rolled oats (I like to do a 50-50 mix)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa or cacao powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups non-dairy milk
  • 1-2 tablespoons grade A maple syrup (*)
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons chia seeds or ground flax (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chocolate or chocolate chips

Optional toppings

Instructions 

  • Add oats, cocoa powder, and salt to a pan over medium heat. Mix well.
  • Add milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and chia seeds. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Divide into bowls, top with chocolate and optional toppings. Serve fresh or reheat leftovers with a splash of water or milk.

Notes

This oatmeal is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat with a splash of water or non-dairy milk.
