Delight in these flaky, apple-filled hand pies, perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large green apples (peeled, cored, and cut into chunks)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon water (or more if needed)
  • 1 pound prepared pie dough (cut into 4 pieces)
  • 1 egg egg
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar (or as needed)

Instructions 

  • Cook apple filling: melt butter, cook apples with sugars, salt, cinnamon, and water until soft and sticky. Cool.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll dough into 8-inch circles.
  • Fill each circle with 1/3 to 1/2 cup apple filling, fold over, and crimp edges.
  • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, cut vent holes, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.

Notes

Ensure not to overfill to prevent spilling during baking.
