Rich, fudgy brownies with a deep nutty flavor from browned butter, perfect for chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate) (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper.
  • Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat until golden and fragrant, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Whisk cocoa powder and vanilla into the browned butter until smooth. Beat eggs and brown sugar until fluffy, then fold in the butter mixture.
  • Gently fold in flour, salt, and chocolate chips until just combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, testing for doneness with a toothpick; edges should be set but center slightly gooey.

Notes

For extra richness, add more chocolate chips or a sprinkle of sea salt on top before baking.
