Butter Herbs Braided Bread

A deliciously fragrant braided bread infused with herbs and butter, perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3.75 cups all-purpose flour (measured then sifted)
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 0.33 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp butter (cubed)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1.5 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 large egg egg
  • 6 Tbsp butter (room temp)
  • 2 Tbsp favorite herbs (chopped finely)
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder

Instructions 

  • Sift flour into a large bowl, create a well in the center.
  • Heat water, milk, and 2 Tbsp butter until very warm; pour into flour. Add salt, yeast, and sugar; let foam for 3-5 mins. Whisk egg, add to mixture, then knead until smooth.
  • Let dough rise in a greased bowl covered for 1 hour until doubled. Divide into three, roll into 3x12 strips, spread butter, sprinkle herbs, and roll tightly. Braid strands, pinch ends.
  • Brush braid with butter, cover loosely, and let rise for 30-45 mins. Sprinkle garlic powder on top.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 mins until golden brown. Brush with remaining butter and cool before slicing.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle additional herbs on top before baking.
