A simple and flavorful way to enjoy tender turnips with butter and herbs, perfect as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed turnip ((1/2 inch cubes, can substitute rutabaga))
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • water water (enough to cover turnip)

Instructions 

  • Peel and dice turnip into 1/2 inch cubes, then rinse and transfer to a saucepan.
  • Cover turnip with water so it's one inch above, then bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Boil for 20 minutes, then add rosemary and thyme, cooking for another 10 minutes until fork-tender.
  • Drain and discard water, then stir in black pepper and butter until melted and combined.
  • Season with additional salt if needed, then serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle with fresh herbs before serving.
