A warm, spiced apple cobbler topped with buttery biscuit crust, perfect for cozy desserts.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 cup water
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground allspice
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp ground ginger
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 8 large apples (peeled, cored and diced into ¼” cubes) (Mix of Granny Smith and Gala)

Topping

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (cut into ½” pieces)
  • 2 Tbsp coarse sugar (such as demerara or sparkling sugar)

For serving

  • to taste vanilla ice cream
  • to taste ground cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare filling by combining water, sugars, cornstarch, flour, lemon juice, vanilla, and spices; cook until thickened. Toss apples with filling and transfer to baking dish.
  • Make biscuit topping by mixing flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, and egg; cut in butter until crumbly. Drop spoonfuls over apple filling.
  • Sprinkle coarse sugar and ground cinnamon on top. Bake for 40 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor.
