Delight in these flaky, sweet-tart cranberry hand pies, perfect for a festive treat or dessert.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, cold, cubed (8 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup full fat sour cream (cold)

Filling

  • 3 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest, finely grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons grand mariner
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons sparkling sugar, optional

Instructions 

  • Prepare the dough by mixing flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly, then add sour cream and form into a dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine cranberries, brown sugar, granulated sugar, orange zest, orange juice, flour, mariner, and vanilla to make the filling.
  • Roll out the dough, cut into circles, and place a spoonful of filling on each. Fold and seal the edges.
  • Brush the pies with beaten egg and sprinkle with sparkling sugar if desired. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes until golden.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For a crispier crust, chill the dough thoroughly before baking.
