Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread ((12-14 slices))
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk ((or almond/oat milk))
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream ((or half-and-half))
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar ((or brown sugar))
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract ((or vanilla bean paste))
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon ((or nutmeg))
  • Pinch salt

Instructions 

  • Slice the bread and arrange in a greased dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until combined.
  • Pour custard over bread, soak for 30 mins or overnight, then preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 25-30 mins, then sprinkle sugar and caramelize with a torch or broiler.
  • Cool slightly, then serve topped with berries, powdered sugar, and syrup.
