Ingredients
Dough
1 1/2cupsall-purpose flour(spooned & leveled)
1Tablespoongranulated sugar
1/4teaspoonsalt
1/2cupcold unsalted butter(cubed)
1/4cupice-cold water(plus more as needed)
Egg wash
1largeegg(beaten with milk)
15mlmilk
Filling
3–4applespeeled and sliced apples(about 4–5 cups (500–600g))
1/4cupbrown sugar(packed light or dark)
1 1/2Tablespoonsall-purpose flour
2teaspoonsfresh lemon juice
1teaspoonground cinnamon
1/4teaspoonground nutmeg

3Tablespoonssalted caramel sauce(drizzled over filling)
Instructions
Mix flour, sugar, and salt; cut in butter until crumbly. Add water, form dough, chill for 1 hour.
Combine apples, sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside.
Roll dough into a 12-inch circle on floured surface; transfer to baking sheet.
Arrange apple filling in center, fold edges over, brush with egg wash, sprinkle with coarse sugar, and drizzle caramel if desired. Chill for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Bake for 35–36 minutes until golden and bubbly. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Chill the assembled galette well to maintain shape during baking.
