This homemade milk bread loaf is soft, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast. Made with simple ingredients, it's a delightful treat to enjoy fresh from the oven.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 500 g bread flour (approximately 3¾ cups)
  • 40 g granulated sugar (approximately 3 tablespoons)
  • 1.5 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 225 g cold water (a little less than 1 cup)
  • 115 g cold milk (½ cup)
  • 9 g sea salt (1½ teaspoons)
  • 25 g unsalted butter (softened, 1¾ tablespoons)

For greasing and brushing

  • Butter (for greasing the pan and brushing the loaf)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting the pan)

Instructions 

  • Whisk cold water and milk together in a bowl.
  • Combine flour, sugar, and yeast in a mixer. Add liquids and mix until shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead on medium-low until smooth. Add salt and butter, knead until elastic and passes windowpane test.
  • Shape into a ball, let rise in a greased bowl for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  • Punch down, shape into a loaf, place in greased pan, and let rise for 45-60 minutes.
  • Brush with melted butter, bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden. Cool on wire rack.

Notes

Ensure the dough is elastic and passes the windowpane test for best texture.
