Delicious homemade garlic herb breadsticks with a flavorful buttery topping, perfect as a side or snack.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1/2 cup warm water (110℉)
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (traditional yeast)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (110℉)
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (*)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil (*)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (*)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (or Grana Padano)
  • 2 1/2-2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Garlic Herb Topping

  • 1/4 cup salted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (or Grana Padano)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions 

  • Mix yeast, sugar, and warm water; let sit 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Combine warm water, melted butter, salt, herbs, spices, and 2 cups of flour; add yeast mixture and remaining flour; knead until smooth.
  • Let dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Divide dough into 18 pieces, roll into breadsticks, place on baking sheet, and let rise 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 350℉ for 10 minutes, brush with garlic butter, then bake 7-12 more minutes until golden.

Notes

For best results, use fresh herbs and high-quality cheese.
