Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 5 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt ((more if using unsalted butter))
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 cups flour

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375˚F and butter a 9x5 loaf pan.
  • Mix molasses, butter chunks, and boiling water until butter melts.
  • Combine baking soda, salt, and ginger; add to molasses mixture and stir.
  • Stir in flour until smooth, then pour into prepared pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, cool for 10 minutes, then serve.
