Ingredients

Batter

  • 0.5 cup salted butter, melted
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup apple butter ((or applesauce/pumpkin butter))
  • 0.5 cup greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 units eggs (at room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Apple mixture

  • 2 cups Honeycrisp apples, chopped ((about 2 cups))
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • to taste flaky sea salt

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Mix butter, brown sugar, apple butter, yogurt, eggs, and vanilla. Add flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; combine.
  • Combine chopped apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla for the apple layer.
  • Layer half the batter in the dish, add half the apples, then top with remaining batter and apples. Bake 55-60 mins.
  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make glaze. Drizzle over cooled cake and sprinkle with sea salt.
