Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (can substitute gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 cup butter (cold for flakiness)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (you can use less for a less sweet base)

Custard Filling

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract (opt for high-quality)
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground cardamom

Instructions 

  • Prepare the tart crust by mixing flour, cold butter, and sugar until crumbly. Press into tart pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
  • In a saucepan, heat milk and half the sugar until warm. In a bowl, whisk eggs, remaining sugar, vanilla, and ground cardamom. Slowly pour warm milk into egg mixture, stirring constantly.
  • Pour the custard filling into the pre-baked crust and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until set.
  • Allow to cool before serving. Garnish with additional cardamom if desired.

Notes
