Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions 

  • Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy (~5-10 min).
  • Combine flour and salt; add yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and water. Mix until just combined.
  • Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Let dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Divide dough into 8-10 pieces, shape into buns, place on baking sheet, and let rise 30-40 min.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush buns with egg wash and bake 15-18 min until golden.

Notes

For a shiny finish, brush buns with egg wash before baking.
