A hearty and wholesome bread combining oats, whole wheat, and honey for a delicious homemade loaf.

Ingredients

Yeast

  • 1.5 tsp active dry yeast
  • 0.5 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp sugar

Flours

  • 4.5 cups all purpose flour (can use up to 5 cups)
  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup oat bran
  • 1 tsp salt

Wet ingredients

  • 2 eggs eggs
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
  • 2.5 cups lukewarm milk
  • 0.33 cup honey

Instructions 

  • Proof the yeast by dissolving sugar in warm water, then add yeast and wait 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Combine flours, oat bran, and salt in a mixer; add remaining ingredients and knead for 5 minutes.
  • Let the dough rise, then punch down and divide into 3 pans.
  • Allow the loaves to rise until about 2 inches above pans, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40-50 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding.

Notes

For best results, let the bread cool before slicing.
