A wholesome homemade bread combining the nutty flavor of whole wheat with the sweetness of honey, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (approximately 110°)
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/2 - 3 cups all purpose flour (or bread flour) (adjust as needed)

For greasing

  • unsalted unsalted butter (for greasing the pan and rubbing on the bread)

Instructions 

  • Grease a 9-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  • Mix water, yeast, and honey; let sit 5 min until foamy.
  • Add salt, wheat flour, and 2 cups white flour; mix until combined.
  • Gradually add more white flour until dough pulls away from sides; knead until smooth.
  • Let dough rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 1 hour; punch down and shape into a loaf.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35-40 min until golden; rub with butter, cool before slicing.
