Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 tablespoons lukewarm water
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar (white, granulated)
  • ¼ teaspoon instant yeast
  • ½ cup whole milk (plus extra for egg wash)
  • 1 egg medium egg (plus yolk for egg wash)
  • ½ stick unsalted butter (melted, plus extra for greasing)
  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (divided)

Instructions 

  • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit until frothy.
  • Mix in milk, egg, melted butter, and salt; gradually add flour to form dough.
  • Knead dough until smooth, then let rise until doubled in size.
  • Divide dough, flatten, and fill with cheese; roll up and place in greased pan.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes until golden.

Notes

Brush with egg wash before baking for a shiny finish.
