This flavorful bread combines spicy jalapenos and sharp cheddar cheese for a delicious homemade treat, baked to perfection in a Dutch oven.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large jalapeno (diced)
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 standard .25oz packet)
  • 1/3 - 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
  • 10 round slices jalapeno (or more, to taste)

Instructions 

  • Mix flour, salt, 2 cups cheddar, and diced jalapenos in a bowl.
  • Combine warm water and yeast in a large bowl; add dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  • Fold dough 8-10 times, cover, and let rise 1 hour; repeat folding and rising for a second hour.
  • Preheat Dutch oven to 450°F (230°C) with lid on for 30 minutes; turn dough onto floured surface, shape into a ball, score, and add cheese and jalapenos.
  • Transfer dough to hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake 30 minutes; remove lid and bake 20 more minutes. Cool before slicing.

Notes

Ensure dough is high hydration; it will be looser than traditional bread dough.
