A hearty and sweet bread made with oats and maple syrup, perfect for breakfast or snacks.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2.5 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 package instant dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions 

  • Combine boiling water and oats; let sit for 1 hour.
  • Add maple syrup, yeast, and oil; stir. Mix in 3 cups flour and salt to form loose dough.
  • Stir in remaining flour until dough forms; knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  • Let dough rise in oiled bowl, covered, for 1 hour.
  • Shape into loaves, place in pans, and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 minutes; cool before slicing.

Notes

For a softer crust, cover the bread with foil halfway through baking.
