Ingredients

Oil and Aromatics

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Tomato Sauce

  • 26 ounces Pomi chopped tomatoes (or two 15-ounce cans of diced tomatoes, undrained)

Meat and Seasonings

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85/15)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Fresh Herbs

  • 2 tablespoons cilantro (finely chopped)

Instructions 

  • Mix ground beef with spices, garlic, and cilantro, then form into meatballs.
  • Heat olive oil in a pan and brown the meatballs on all sides.
  • Add chopped tomatoes to the pan and simmer until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the sauce.
