Ingredients

Oil and Aromatics

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh garlic (minced)

Spices and Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Tomato Base

  • 26 ounces Pomi chopped tomatoes (or two 15-ounce cans of diced tomatoes, undrained)

Meat and Additional Spices

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85/15)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro (finely chopped)

Instructions 

  • Mix ground beef with spices, form into meatballs.
  • Heat oil and sauté garlic until fragrant.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and seasonings, simmer.
  • Cook meatballs in sauce until fully cooked, about 20 minutes.
  • Stir in chopped cilantro before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the meatballs rest in the sauce for 10 minutes before serving.
