This traditional Irish soda bread is quick to make and perfect for a hearty, crusty loaf without yeast.
Ingredients
Dry ingredients

baking soda

Wet ingredients

buttermilk

tablespoons
unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease or line a baking sheet.
Mix flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
Add buttermilk and melted butter; stir until just combined.
Shape dough into a round loaf, place on prepared sheet, and cut a deep X on top.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool slightly before slicing. Best enjoyed warm or toasted.
Notes
For a softer crust, cover with foil during the first 20 minutes of baking.
