Pear Rice Pudding with Maple and Candied Pecans

A comforting rice pudding infused with warm spices, sweet maple syrup, and fresh pears, topped with candied pecans for crunch.

Ingredients

Rice and liquids

  • 1 cup Jasmine rice ((or similar long-grain white rice))
  • 5 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup dark maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar ((packed))
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
  • 2 pears USA Pears Comice variety (1 chopped into bite-sized pieces, 1 thinly sliced for garnish)
  • as needed candied pecans
  • as needed additional maple syrup

Instructions 

  • Combine rice and 4 cups of milk in a heavy-bottomed pot. Bring to a boil, add spices, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Wash and core pears. Chop one pear into small pieces and thinly slice the other for garnish.
  • Uncover rice, stir, and cook for 10 minutes until thick. Add remaining milk, maple syrup, brown sugar, and salt; cook for 5 minutes until sugar dissolves. Strain out spices.
  • Stir in chopped pears, then serve topped with sliced pears, candied pecans, and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

For extra flavor, toast the pecans before adding them as a topping.
