Soft, buttery dinner rolls with a golden crust, perfect for any meal or special occasion.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 0.75 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 0.5 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • cups all-purpose flour (more if needed)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for brushing)
  • Pinch optional flaky sea salt

Instructions 

  • Combine warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy (5-10 min).
  • Add melted butter, salt, and egg; gradually mix in flour until dough forms a soft ball.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic (5-7 min by machine or 10 min by hand).
  • Let dough rise in a warm place for 20-30 min until puffy.
  • Divide dough into 12 pieces, shape into balls, place in greased dish, and let rise 15-20 min.
  • Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 16-18 min until golden. Brush with browned butter and sprinkle salt.

Notes

For softer rolls, cover with a damp towel during rising.
