A creamy homemade yogurt infused with maple and vanilla, made effortlessly in a slow cooker.

Ingredients

Milk

  • 8 cups milk (1%, 2% or whole)

Yogurt

  • 4 ounces plain yogurt

Sweetener

  • 0.5 cup pure maple syrup

Flavoring

  • 2 tablespoons vanilla bean paste

Optional Add-in

  • 0.125 teaspoon natural maple flavor extract (or more)

Instructions 

  • Cook milk in slow cooker on low for 2.5 hours, then turn off and let sit covered for 2.5-3 hours.
  • Whisk together yogurt, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste in a small bowl.
  • Stir yogurt mixture into the cooked milk, then cover and insulate with a towel. Let sit overnight or at least 8 hours.
  • Line a strainer with paper towels or coffee filters, place over a bowl, and add the yogurt to strain whey. Refrigerate until thickened.
  • Spoon the thickened yogurt into containers and save whey for smoothies or other uses.
