This soft and hearty oatmeal bread combines the wholesome goodness of oats with the warmth of freshly baked bread, perfect for breakfast or snacks.

Ingredients

Dough

  • ¾ cup warm milk (115-125°F)
  • ¾ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • ½ cup warm water (110-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast ((1 packet))
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons old-fashioned rolled oats (for topping)

Instructions 

  • Combine milk and oats; let sit 30 min.
  • Add butter, honey, water, yeast, salt, flours; mix until combined.
  • Knead with dough hook for 8 min; let rise 60-90 min until doubled.
  • Shape into loaf, place in greased pan; let rise 20-30 min.
  • Brush with egg wash, sprinkle oats; bake at 350°F for 45-55 min.
  • Cool 15 min, then remove from pan; cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
