Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 2 teaspoons chai tea leaves (or 2 bags of Tazo Chai)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground clove
  • teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream (or water)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions 

  • Cream cold butter, chai leaves, spices, and salt until combined.
  • Add powdered sugar and mix until incorporated.
  • Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Shape dough into a log, chill for at least 4 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F, slice dough into 24 cookies, and bake for 14-16 minutes until edges are golden.
  • Mix powdered sugar, cream, vanilla, and cinnamon for icing; dip cooled cookies and set until hardened.

Notes

Chilling the dough enhances flavor; keep cookies stored in an airtight container.
