Delight in these creamy vanilla custard squares with a buttery crust, perfect for a sweet treat or dessert.
Ingredients
Crust

all-purpose flour

cup
unsalted butter, softened
1/4
cup
granulated sugar
Custard
2
cups
milk
1/3
cup
granulated sugar

egg yolks
1/4
cup
cornstarch

teaspoons
vanilla extract
1/4
teaspoon
salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix flour, butter, and 1/4 cup sugar; press into an 8×8 inch pan and bake 15 minutes.
Heat milk until simmering. Whisk together 1/3 cup sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla, and salt.
Gradually pour hot milk into egg mixture, then return to saucepan and cook until thickened. Pour over crust.
Bake for 25 minutes until custard is set. Cool completely and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
Notes
Chill thoroughly for best flavor and texture.
