Delight in these creamy vanilla custard squares with a buttery crust, perfect for a sweet treat or dessert.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Custard

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix flour, butter, and 1/4 cup sugar; press into an 8×8 inch pan and bake 15 minutes.
  • Heat milk until simmering. Whisk together 1/3 cup sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla, and salt.
  • Gradually pour hot milk into egg mixture, then return to saucepan and cook until thickened. Pour over crust.
  • Bake for 25 minutes until custard is set. Cool completely and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Chill thoroughly for best flavor and texture.
