A rustic and delicious galette combining sweet apples, salted caramel, and crunchy walnuts, perfect for a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour or whole wheat pastry flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • up to 4 tbsp ice-cold water (add gradually until dough forms)

Filling

  • 3-4 tbsp caramel sauce (salted miso caramel)
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and cored
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup chopped walnuts

Topping & finishing

  • additional cinnamon and raw sugar for sprinkling (optional)
  • flaky sea salt, such as Maldon for sprinkling for sprinkling

Instructions 

  • Combine flour, salt, and butter in a food processor; pulse until pea-sized.
  • Add water gradually, pulsing until dough forms; chill in refrigerator.
  • Slice apples thinly, toss with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and walnuts.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out dough, spread caramel, arrange apples and walnuts, fold edges, and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly, then sprinkle with sea salt. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
