This wholesome, yeast-free bread combines the nutty flavor of whole wheat with the natural sweetness of honey, perfect for a quick and healthy bake.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour ((468 grams))
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups buttermilk ((or sour milk, room temperature))
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Optional Topping

  • 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds (to sprinkle over the top)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 300℉ (150ºC). Spray a 9" x 5" loaf pan with non-stick spray.
  • Mix dry ingredients: whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Whisk together buttermilk, honey, and oil; combine with dry ingredients until just mixed.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with sunflower seeds if using.
  • Bake for 55 minutes, then cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before slicing.
